The Shelby-based law firm of Teddy, Meekins & Talbert, P.L.L.C., announced today that it has entered into a five-year sponsorship agreement with the American Legion World Series. Shelby-Cleveland County has hosted the American Legion World Series baseball tournament since 2011. This year’s tournament is scheduled for August 15-19. Shelby’s Veterans Field and Keeter Stadium are slated to host the American Legion World Series for two more consecutive five-year terms, running through at least 2029. American Legion Baseball dates back to 1925, according to the American Legion World Series website. It holds the distinction of providing the first national baseball tournament for teenagers, and many of its participants have gone on to play the sport at the collegiate and professional levels.
Today, roughly 4,000 amateur teams participate in American Legion Baseball. Players between the ages of 15 and 19 are eligible to play.
The league’s crowning event takes place in the form of the American Legion World Series each year in Keeter Stadium. The stadium is adjacent to Shelby High School off East Dixon Boulevard on the south side of Shelby.
