As a lifelong resident of Cleveland County, NC, Daniel R. Talbert has spent much of his life dedicated to helping the people in the place he proudly calls home. His compassion for the common man, a strong work ethic and deep running morals were instilled in him from a very young age by the person he most admires, his father. These same attributes carried over to his passion for the game of golf and his drive to excel at academics during his high school years at Crest High School where he was a four-year letterman in golf and graduated valedictorian in 1994.
From there Mr. Talbert went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was honored to participate in several distinguished activities such as being the President of the Board of Directors of The Daily Tarheel and a member of Phi Alpha Delta (pre-law fraternity). His exceptional contributions to the university community earned him the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence, once again showing Mr. Talbert’s desire to make a difference and to help others. He graduated with Honors in 1998 with a B.A. Degree in Political Science.
It was a natural fit for Mr. Talbert when he selected Campbell Law School. During his time there, he was Chairman of the Mediation in Advocacy Program and President of the Campbell Law Democrats. Mr. Talbert proudly received his J.D. in 2001 and happily returned “home” to join Teddy, Meekins & Talbert, P.L.L.C., where he became partner in 2005. Staying true to his core values, knowledge and natural talent, Mr. Talbert focuses his practice on trial litigation (both criminal defense and family law).
His service to the legal community has been once again his service to the community reflects his dedication to helping others and a desire to make the profession the noble and honorable one it was designed to be. He has been President of the 27B Judicial District (including both Lincoln and Cleveland County) and President and Vice-President of the local Cleveland County Bar Association. He is honored to be a member of the North Carolina and Cleveland County Bar Associations, The North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, The Association of Trial Lawyers of America, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and North Carolina Criminal Defense and Family Law Sections of the Academy of Trial Lawyers.
One of the things Mr. Talbert is most proud of is that he still attends and is active in Central United Methodist Church, the church he grew up in, and where he is currently serving as a member of the Administrative Board, as well as being a youth counselor. During his time away from the office you can find him doing the things he loves most, spending time with his wonderful family – amazing wife Jessica and their 2 boys ages 6 & 8, enjoying the outdoors and hiking (he has hiked over 1000 miles on the Appalachian Trail) or enjoying a challenging round of golf like he did when he was a teenager playing on River Bend Golf Course.
